my question is if its a ';set'; will it look odd if i decide to get just one ? meaning i want to get the realistic swallows but not 2 at the same time , and im thinking about the angel swallow but i honestly have not seen a single swallows like thatI need advice from people with multiple tattoos. im having kinda hard time with this one?
No, I don't think it's odd at all. And one will look great. You don't have to have a 'mirror image', although it's popular to do them that way. And what you are calling 'cartoonish' is simply new-skool art, growing by leaps and bounds into mainstream tattooing. Very popular, as are the beautiful 'American traditional' sparrows, which look really sharp. You've got a good eye for art. Get what really melts your butter! my friend and i both just got swallow tattoos, we only got 1, however the tattooist saved our stencil because he said we would be back for another one. so just have them do the same just in case you want another one!

It wouldn't Look weird just getting one. You're okay.
One swallow would be fine on it's own if that's what you want, it's all down to placement and preference. Tattoo's can always be added to at a later date but it's not so easy to remove or cover unwanted ink so less is best if you are unsure.
The realistic looking swallows are in a pair because they are traditionally a sailor tattoo and would usually be done on the chest in a pair. For more info read this:

As to whether you should get the angel swallow (cartoon type) or the realistic one it is again down to personal preference. It's going to be on your body at the end of the day so go with what you like best.
